Persistent irregularities in the heartbeat can be a sign of a serious underlying condition known as cardiac arrhythmia. It causes the heart to beat out of rhythm or palpitations, which leads to a skipped, extra, or irregular heartbeat, Dr. Yugal Kishore Mishra Chairman, Manipal Institute of Cardiac Sciences Manipal Hospital Dwarka, New Delhi told Financial Express.com.
“A skipped beat, often called an early heartbeat, is due to the contraction of the ventricles while pushing the blood out of the heart to the body. It is harmless and can be caused due to various factors, like: Stress and anxiety, extreme physical activity, fatigue, low blood pressure, and age factor. Recognizing the early signs and symptoms is essential,” Dr. Mishra said.
- It is considered one of the first signs of cardiac arrhythmia. The feeling of a skipped or irregular heartbeat should not be ignored.
- It could be a symptom of arrhythmia. In case of increased sweating without any physical activity or movement, should be given immediate medical attention.
- An irregular heartbeat can lead to insufficient blood flow or low BP, causing unconsciousness and feelings of dizziness during an activity.
- It could be a painful sign of cardiac arrhythmia; any chest pain that cannot be explained should not be ignored.
- Improper blood flow can lead to difficulty in breathing and can be a symptom of arrhythmia.
“In case any symptoms arise, it is important to seek medical attention to avoid any severe condition that can be life-threatening. Lifestyle changes through a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management can reduce the risk of cardiac arrhythmia. Surgical options for treating cardiac arrhythmia include advanced robotic-assisted procedures, which offer greater precision and reduced recovery times,” Dr. Mishra told Financial Express.com.
