Persistent irregularities in the heartbeat can be a sign of a serious underlying condition known as cardiac arrhythmia. It causes the heart to beat out of rhythm or palpitations, which leads to a skipped, extra, or irregular heartbeat, Dr. Yugal Kishore Mishra Chairman, Manipal Institute of Cardiac Sciences Manipal Hospital Dwarka, New Delhi told Financial Express.com.

“A skipped beat, often called an early heartbeat, is due to the contraction of the ventricles while pushing the blood out of the heart to the body. It is harmless and can be caused due to various factors, like: Stress and anxiety, extreme physical activity, fatigue, low blood pressure, and age factor. Recognizing the early signs and symptoms is essential,” Dr. Mishra said.
