Cardiac Arrest: The Silent Killer – Signs, Causes, and                                                          Prevention!

Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to vital organs. Unlike a heart attack, which is caused by blocked arteries, cardiac arrest is often triggered by irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias).

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Sudden loss of consciousness
  • No pulse or breathing
  • Chest pain or discomfort before collapse
  • Extreme shortness of breath

Common Causes:

Coronary artery disease – The leading cause of cardiac arrest.
Electrical disturbances – Irregular heartbeats like ventricular fibrillation.
High blood pressure & cholesterol – Risk factors for heart disease.
Drug overdose or severe trauma – Can disrupt heart function.

Emergency Response:

If someone collapses and is unresponsive:
Call 911 immediately
Start CPR – Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) if available.

Prevention & Heart Health:

Regular exercise & healthy diet
Control blood pressure & cholesterol
Quit smoking & alcohol abuse
Manage stress & sleep well
Regular heart check-ups

Every second counts in cardiac arrest! Learning CPR and recognizing the signs can help save lives.
